When I first heard people in the gym talking about macros way back when, I remember thinking to myself, “I want nothing to do with that science sh*t!”
Can you relate? 😂
But while the term SOUNDS a little intimidating or even extreme, once I mastered the art (and science) of counting macros, it ended up being so much simpler than I ever could’ve expected AND skyrocketing my fitness goals.
Knowledge is power, baby! So let’s bust the top 3 macro myths I see floating around lately 👀
MYTH #1: Once you start, you can’t stop
Wrong! Just because you START counting macros does not mean you have to commit to a lifetime of it. Unless, of course, you’re that into it.
Let’s be real, counting macros is not meant to be a forever thing. Instead, it’s a tool that you can use when you want.
If you want to give it a shot and find it’s not for you, you can stop immediately without experiencing any negative effects. No pressure!
MYTH #2: Macro counting is hard and time consuming
While I wouldn’t consider macro counting hard OR time consuming, I will be straight with you—this shit can take some time to feel like you’ve really got it figured out.
Real talk: When I started macro counting back in 2012, it took me 6 months to feel like I really had a full grasp on doing it on my own without the help of a coach.
But the good news is, through a lot of testing and trial and error, I was able to develop my own macro counting shortcut that I teach my 1:1 VIPetite coaching clients 😉
Now, it only takes them about 2-4 weeks to feel confident counting macros on their own!
And of course, as with anything in life, the more you practice counting macros, the better you’ll get and the more confidence you’ll have about meeting your macro goals.
MYTH #3: What you can eat is limited
This myth couldn’t be further from the truth! The beauty of counting macros is really its flexibility.
It doesn’t promote a specific diet or restrict certain food groups. Instead, this practice emphasizes achieving a balance of macronutrients that aligns with your body’s needs and goals.
This means you can adopt various eating styles (such as pescatarian, Mediterranean, paleo, or even practice intermittent fasting), while still adhering to the principles of counting macros.
Say goodbye to boring restrictive diets and hello to a fun and delicious way of achieving fitness goals and (as cliche as it sounds) living your best, healthiest life!
